These Vikings sure can lay on the Weather!

Well, sorry for the infrequent updates, I'm fine, but soaking wet. On the south of Funen it is absolutely pouring rain, and all the towns are salty winswept fishing outposts. I will be in Germany within a few days, godwilling, and onto nicer weather.

Also, I think I may take a drastically different route back to the U.K...as yet unplanned. Sorry for the lack of pictures, I'm writing this at the tourist information beaureu in FÄborg at the moment!

(I'll update with pics asap)

Ride from Roskilde

"Denmark is great for riding" they said.
"It's a breeze!"

Oh it's a breeze alright. A 1000 km/h (approx) one heading straight into your face! I rode with James, another cyclist to Roskilde, where he had a ticket to the festival and I did not.

James

As there was nowhere to stay due to the thousands of people booked into all the hostels, we stealth camped in a small thicket not too far from town. It wasn't too bad actually.
We camped just behind me in the bushes

The ride from Roskilde to Vordingborg (90km) was a hard one (read first paragraph) and I arrived there absolutely exhausted. Upon finding a hostel, I had some small dinner, and hit the sack.
Typical Danish countryside

Vordingborg Hostel

I'm fine, but I hope the riding gets better soon!

OK, finally back on my feet. I mean pedals.

All is right with the world, as I picked up my bicycle and luggage from the airort today. Feels good not to be walking everywhere, nuts to that!

Copenhagen Airport

Bridge in Copenhagen

Bike in bits at the airport after I retrieved it!

Anne´s Street

Lovely little Church on the way to Anne's House

I have been staying at a very nice apartment north of Copenhagen with the lovely Anne-Katrine, a couchsurfer. She has been very helpful and such a wonderful host, that rescued me when I was in need!

I hope to cycle out of Copenhagen tomorrow, passing Roskilde and making in to the other end of the island of Zealand.

I've started, there's just a minor hitch...

I've arrived in Copenhagen, but my bike and luggage didn't. A little bit of a rocky start! I'm stuck here in Copenhagen until it gets here (eventually), but really, this is just a minor hiccup in the grand scheme of things!

The flight was long and extremely boring. In some ways I'm glad I'm cycling home because I wouldn't want to go through that again!

Tomorrow, when the ride begins...

At long last, the time has finally come to stop talking and start doing! Put my money where my mouth is! Turn words into actions! etc; etc;

Now enough cliches, I'm heading off to Copenhagen tomorrow for the start of my Copenhagen - London - Brisbane 5 year (approx) world bicycle tour. I'll spend 3 months in Europe riding neither here nor there, then work in the U.K for a while, earning some nice shiny pounds sterling. Then I will be doing the big one - London to Melbourne.

Just one more 'sleep' before the big day, but I'm telling you now, I won't be getting any! (Sleep that is) I still have this gut feeling I am missing something really important, but I am going to Europe, so I'll be able to buy anything I left behind.

As, relatives of mine will know all too well, I am incredibly forgetful at the best of times.

Thanks again, and wish me luck. And if anyone wants to join me for all or part of the trip, your are welcome to!!

Verve reunite!

In totally unrelated news, the 'number 2 band in my top 3 favourite bands' has reunited!

The Verve are back! This comes after Ashcroft, the lead singer of The Verve, said to the media when asked about a possible reformation: "You're more likely to see all four Beatles on stage".

Most people would know them from their song "Bittersweet Symphony".

In related news, I've only one week to go, and my insurance is paid for!

PRESSing forward (bad pun)

I've got some media coverage, via the local Brisbane newspapers and I have recieved an email from Amnesty International, who are interested in my trip. The plan is pressing ahead full steam. If anyone has any questions etc; feel free to leave comments on the site.

It's Confirmed

Hooray! My visa for Working Holiday in the U.K has arrived! **And now I've paid for my ticket! **I should be on my way by the 4th of July. In case you do not know, these are my (loose) plans for my voyage:

1. Cycle from Denmark to the U.K via Italian Riviera
2. Work in the U.K to save money.
3. Cycle from the U.K to Brisbane overland.

The third part seems quite mad, but I assure you, people have succeeded before.
Doesn't mean they weren't nutters, though.

Status Update

A lot has happened since the last time folks! I have been a member of a website called couchsurfing for a few weeks now, and through the website, I have met countless other travellers. Some are from Brisbane in between travels, but the majority are people from all over the world!

A fortnight ago there was a picnic/bbq at soutbank, where I met many people, one of which was Gionata Nencini, a man who has travelled all over the planet by motorcycle (he has a fantastic website: http://www.partireper.it/). Gionata told me that he has just arrived in Brisbane, and is having a housewarming party for his new place.

Next up was Fenja, whom I showed around Brisbane, namely Southbank, West End and the City Gardens.

And today was Dayboro Day, a festival in country town I grew up in.

Good times had. Only a bit over a month and I'm off on my adventure! (visa pending)

Brothers in Arms

I went to Brisbane city today for some training, and whilst lazing around the top of Queen St Mall, I met two other cyclists, one bike touring around Australia. Here's Shuto Takuya.

Trip to Dayboro

Here's a few of pics from touring training this weekend, out in Samsonvale. LOTS of hills!

Not many updates at the moment, I've just been saving money for the trip. Got my passport and quotes for my visa and travel insurance. Hoping to keep my July deadline, but it's gonna be tight!
